Yes it was a Saturday night ritual in our house too. Occasionally the van driver didn’t get to Ridgeway which started a mad hunt on Sunday around every newsagent from Gleadless to Brighton to hunt down a copy. If I went on holiday in the season someone was tasked with buying a copy for me to read when I got back.

I’ve got 30 years of United’s match report cuttings from the Green Un and The Star neatly folded into every home and away programme in our loft!

One headline that sticks out for me for some reason is BURRIDGE BOOB! Can’t remember the game unfortunately but the answer will lie in my loft!

Excellent and very poignant. I had forgotten what a constant the Green ‘Un was in my young life (or The Green One as my sister once famously asked for when sent to fetch it). In pre- mobile phone says it was a lifesaver if I was the first of my mates to get to the pub, something to occupy me and dilute the Billy No Mates vibes as I awaited reinforcements.

Lovely stuff.

Great piece that David, brings back some lovely memories, waiting for the van to deliver and a great educational tool . Anything about football and i would read it, including how our old players were going on at Barnsley, Chesterfield and Rotherham etc. We were lucky to have experienced the Green'Un in its prime.

Thanks
