Incredibly poignant John. It's wonderful how such stories can be so moving because of the shared interest despite not knowing the subjects.

What a wonderful, honest and poignantly human account of life, and as a Blade, thanks for sharing, John. ⚔️

Thanks, John

“Dad could walk into a pub anywhere in the world and come out a couple of hours later having made a friend or gained a story to tell.” I’d love to have known him!

And I really enjoyed your description of his village team post-match debrief which reads like acting out the speech inflections of James Alexander Gordon!

What a wonderful tribute to your Blades supporting Dad. I’m sure lots of us have memories of relatives in their flat caps, lucky socks (or whatever), eating mints (or Woolies’ pick ‘n mix) but perhaps none quite as philosophical as your Dad with his “typical United” every time! But he was right – we never do it the easy way, do we?

I am sorry for your loss, but this was a marvellous way (along with the – no doubt very humorous and touching – funeral) to celebrate the football side of his life, his legendary manoeuvres and his thoughtful, rational way of looking at Blades’ results.

Thanks so much for sharing.

Sue.

Typical United. Immortal words that are often repeated, even this week. Take care x
