After winning the Division Four title the previous season, Sheffield United’s 1982/83 season was an unremarkable one. The signing of Terry Curran unsettled a confident team, putting the superb Colin Morris’s nose out of joint, and mixed results followed. There were four consecutive defeats without scoring a goal in both September and December, then there were five consecutive wins in March, as well as 5-1 cup wins over Grimsby Town and Boston United and an excellent performance in a 3-2 defeat in a third round FA Cup replay at First Division Stoke City.
