It’s 7 o’clock, and I’ll come right out with it: PLEASE can you spend ten seconds voting for us in the ‘Fan Media Category’ for this year’s Football Supporter’s Association Awards?

The Pinch started out life less than two years ago. And in that time we’ve been nominated for the FSA awards twice. I am incredibly proud of that achievement, especially considering the long-established competition we’ve come up against.

Look, it was a competition we lost last year. And more than likely, it’s a competition we won’t win this year either. But I believe if everyone who opens this email casts a vote for The Pinch (or two, using different browsers/devices) then we have a real shot — that is my ask this morning.

I know there are loads of readers who’ll take me up on that. And I just want to say a huge thank you to anybody who has ever read and enjoyed The Pinch. Without your support in the thousands — especially our paid subscribers in their hundreds — we would have no hope of doing this. Because what sets us apart is our insistence on paying all writers for their work no matter if this is their first byline or their millionth.

We’ve worked with writers from the Guardian, editors from The Athletic, and a litany of incredible contributors who hold one thing in common: they support Sheffield United. It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am to all of them for their work, but to try and give you some idea…

David and I spend a large proportion of our week speaking to contributors, reading their writing, editing their work, faffing around creating images, reading some more, editing some more, and hitting send. It comes on top of day jobs that are seemingly — like everyone else’s — never-ending. And in amongst all that, the endless waves of working on The Pinch always wash up as the high watermark of our weeks. It is, honestly, an absolute bloody pleasure in good times and bad.
