The Pinch is two weeks old today. In that time, the Blades have gone from very strong play-off contenders to slightly less-strong play-off contenders. Let’s hope the next fortnight returns us to full strength.
Thanks to more than 1,000 free subscribers, we have started to build a community of readers and writers centred on words and pictures that wouldn’t be published elsewhere.
At the heart of The Pinch is the goal to create a sustainable source of content where every writer is paid for their work. That’s right and fair. They put hours in. And we don’t think it’s an ugly thing to say that they should take something out.
If you like what you read and are keen to support this new alternative to traditional and social media, then please consider a paid subscription for £3.50 per month.
Thank you to everyone who has signed up thus far.

Sheffield United versus Political Incorrectness
Words: Phil Rose
This article contains historical quotes that use unacceptable and racist terms. Please note that neither the author nor the editors in any way condone this language.
If you observe an incident of discrimination in football - whether it took place online or at a grassroots, non-league or professional game - you can report it quickly and easily on the KICK IT OUT website.
The Carrier Bag Firm fully supports Blades players taking a knee in campaigns against discrimination. We also fully support Rhian Brewster making the Tommie Smith 1968 Fist Salute. Hell. We even support defunding the Metropolitan Police FC, founded in 1919, Isthmian League Division One South Champions in 2010-11, and currently playing in the Step 3 Southern League Premier Division South.
But, this is a remarkable story about a United game against International opponents in 1899. It is most accurately told using reports from the time. Hence the use of unacceptable language.
