Sheffield United 1-3 Leeds
Blades gave a good account of themselves, but it wasn't to be as we succumbed to the league leaders.
These ratings will follow after every game of the Championship season, and they will — depending on your outlook — be harsh or too kind. Any 1-10 rating should make use of every number, and as Riley explains below, the ratings system starts at a 5 (when a player enters the field) and goes up or down depending on their contribution.
Riley Roberts
Michael Cooper – 6
Thought he could’ve done better on the 3rd goal but, while it was 1-0, he was fantastic. Claimed crosses and made some important saves look relatively easy
Harry Clarke – 4
Caught ball-watching for Solomon’s chance in the first half and looked uncomfortable 1v1 with him. Not helped by Rak-Sakyi losing his man a few times though in fairness.
Anel Ahmedhodzic – 5
Hard to rate CBs when they had a great 70 minutes but ended up conceding three goals. Will go 5 for both as they both had some good moments but ultimately, it wasn’t enough in the end. Think we could’ve cleared our lines better but unsure how much of that was on those two.
Jack Robinson – 5
See above.
Harrison Burrows – 5
Good first half but couldn’t keep up with Dan James in the second.
Vini Souza – 7
He was unfortunate to be on the losing side as he battled immensely throughout.
Sydie Peck – 5
Had some really nice carries in the first half but also turned into pressure on the edge of our own box at times. Found it a bit harder in the 2nd.
Jesurun Rak-Sakyi – 4
Awareness defensively wasn’t there and wasn’t at all surprised he was taken off. A little disappointed actually as this was a chance for him to have an impact on a big game.
Callum O’Hare – 6
Had the initial effort that led to the goal. Thought he was solid all game.
Ben Brereton Diaz – 6
An incredible ball in for the goal. Almost set up Campbell in the 2nd half too. Probably his best all-round performance since he came back.
Tyrese Campbell – 5
His all-round number-9 play wasn’t the best but he played a big part in the goal. Always keeps defenders on their toes with his threat in behind.
Subs:
Hamza Choudhury – 6
Saw some criticism but I thought he was solid tbh.
Gustavo Hamer - 3
He lost his man on the second goal, made a scything challenge on Bogle, and generally just looked like he lacked discipline. Poor
Tom Cannon – 4
Couldn’t hold the ball up and didn’t really offer much of an out ball.
Average rating – 5.07
Ratings system:
0 – Reserved for anyone who has a wayward effort at goal smash me in the face, unlikely to ever happen.
1 – Worst of the worst. Saved for disastrous performances, with result-altering mistakes.
2 – A terrible performance. Performances where a player offers very little and has many unsuccessful actions, ultimately proving to be a major detriment to the team’s overall performance.
3 – A bad performance. Negative contribution. Like a 2, just a bit less rubbish.
4 – A below-average performance. Not necessarily having a negative impact on the game; it could just be a player who struggled to impact the game at all.
5 – The baseline rating. All players go into a game starting on a 5 — it’s bang average, given out for an unremarkable yet solid performance, for a postman delivering the post.
6 – A decent performance. A player who gets a 6 has positively contributed to the game, and at the very least has had some impressive moments while being generally solid outside of them.
7 – A good performance. Awarded for players who had a noticeable positive impact on the game.
8 – A very good performance. A player who made significant contributions to the outcome of the game with their performance and consistently displayed a high level throughout.
9 – An outstanding performance. To score as high as a 9, a player needs to be dominant throughout the match, performing at a level well above the standard and/or making multiple game-changing contributions.
10 – A perfect 10, unlikely to ever see the light of day as nobody has a flawless game. For me to even think about giving out a 10 it would probably have to be a player doing something historic or unheard of.
