Love this Joel. As an (even) older fan, I feel similar. Still care, defeats hurt, bad decisions rile me, moments of skill or incisive football still lift me put of my seat. But I feel like I watch through a different lens these days. Who I share matchdays and the pre/post elemenst with have changed over time. I just get different enjoyment from going to the match.

Thanks Ian! And a different lens is a good way of phrasing it. A lens ingrained with an ever-increasing range of shock defeats, surprises and bizarre events, haha!

Thanks, Joel

That’s a great way to express your feelings. It’s a strange phenomenon that I’ve often pondered on … “Football becomes the centre of everything. The only thing that really matters. It feels like the start of something. It isn’t.”

Maybe it’s truly an age thing, then? Hard to say, but yes, at 17 everything did feel “bigger than it should have”. (Also life was a bit more simple and slower back then!).

Sue.
