Interesting take. I think the question should be: how much of a season are you will to risk / write off? Does an extra 5 games leave too much to do? Do the potential negative effects of further loses or squad disharmony outweigh a wait and see…
Yup. This is a good point and a discussion I've been having. I would say that, given the results of the relegated sides so far, we're entitled to give him a bit more time than if, say, they'd all won 3 out of 3.
We need to remember that changling manager mid-season comes with its own risks and disruption.
If we do so, who will it be, is someone actually available (well I guess Chris is!), and can we be sure that they will do a better job? We can't, can we?
Personally I find it bizarre that we'd draw conclusions on Sellès, let alone gamble on another manager, so quickly.
Like it or not, we have to *know* he is not the right manager to get rid of him, and despite the emotional calls for Sellès out, I don't believe anyone can genuinely be certain of that yet.
5 games after transfers close seems a minimum for me, unless it is obvious he has lost the dressing room (and there are no clear signs of that).
At this stage, I find it equally possible to argue that his project is getting started and he hasn't had the players needed to be competitive (and that Souza in particular has been a huge loss), as to argue that things are not working and he has made mistakes. That balance needs to shift significantly for us to give him the elbow I think.
To be honest I also think that when we hear doom, gloom and frustration, we are hearing from a vocal minority. The quieter majority of fans I speak to are more patient than that, and see positives that could be green shoots, but perhaps I'm in a bubble!
The cat analogy is very apt: the owners have deposited a steaming pile of excrement on our kitchen floor and lazily flicked litter over it with a paw (the defensive signings) but it’s still stinking the place out.
Meanwhile Selles is on the living room sharpening his claws on our new sofa … actually I don’t know when I am going to with this, and I am just describing what cats do.
It's all far too soon, and we lack the necessary new players, to call out Selles and say it's all his fault. As you say, and I agree, would any other manager (including WIlder) be able to do anything different, let alone better?

Agree with a lot of that Andy!

Thanks, Sam - very well reasoned.

We must wait and see . . .
