Player Ratings: Sheffield United 3-1 Ipswich
Riley Roberts with the ratings as the Blades pick up a great win against 3rd-place Ipswich.
Riley Roberts
Michael Cooper - 8
A couple of huge saves in the first half kept us at 0-0, and that would go on to be the springboard we needed for a big 3 points. My MOTM
Femi Seriki - 7
A solid all round full back performance, active at both ends of the pitch, and combining well once again with Andre Brooks.
Mark McGuinness - 5
A harsh rating, as his all round display, but it was his high arm which allowed Ipswich a potential route back into the game via a penalty, so he does lose marks for that.
Ben Mee - 4
May have made an excellent sliding tackle with his head in the 2nd half, but very nearly gifted Ipswich the lead after dallying in possession and then an undercooked backpass setting Egeli in. Fortunate.
Sam McCallum - 7
Had a few moments where his decision making on the ball may not have been the best, but he was always in the right place at the right time whenever Ipswich looked to break down the wing; winning tackles, and picking up loose balls.
Tom Davies - 6
Kept play ticking well in the middle. His quality was evident without any real standout moments.
Sydie Peck - 6
Showed his quality in moments, both on and off the ball as he was winning 2nd balls in the middle one moment, before looking to thread through passes in the final third the next.
Andre Brooks - 7
Scored a deflected effort from outside the box, then had 2 of the worst shots I’ve ever seen, both going out for a throw-in. That said, his ability to get into those positions is what made him a real threat.
Callum O’Hare - 7
Another who scored, and O’Hare even took a nasty blow in doing so, with a foot right to the head. That didn’t deter him from his usual business though as he buzzed around winning fouls and covering all the ground in the world.
Gustavo Hamer - 8
Two assists from two excellently weighted passes, both of which were extremely hard to execute to the level that he did. A fair shout for MOTM for those 2 moments of quality alone.
Patrick Bamford - 5
Scored and lead the line well, but loses a great chunk of merit by picking up a ridiculous red card, with 2 bookings that just did not need to happen, especially the last one, where he had a tremendous chance to lift the ball over the onrushing keeper and score, but opted to attempt to win a penalty.
Average rating - 6.45
Ratings system:
0 – Reserved for anyone who has a wayward effort at goal smash me in the face, unlikely to ever happen.
1 – Worst of the worst. Saved for disastrous performances, with result-altering mistakes.
2 – A terrible performance. Performances where a player offers very little and has many unsuccessful actions, ultimately proving to be a major detriment to the team’s overall performance.
3 – A bad performance. Negative contribution. Like a 2, just a bit less rubbish.
4 – A below-average performance. Not necessarily having a negative impact on the game; it could just be a player who struggled to impact the game at all.
5 – The baseline rating. All players go into a game starting on a 5 — it’s bang average, given out for an unremarkable yet solid performance, for a postman delivering the post.
6 – A decent performance. A player who gets a 6 has positively contributed to the game, and at the very least has had some impressive moments while being generally solid outside of them.
7 – A good performance. Awarded for players who had a noticeable positive impact on the game.
8 – A very good performance. A player who made significant contributions to the outcome of the game with their performance and consistently displayed a high level throughout.
9 – An outstanding performance. To score as high as a 9, a player needs to be dominant throughout the match, performing at a level well above the standard and/or making multiple game-changing contributions.
10 – A perfect 10, unlikely to ever see the light of day as nobody has a flawless game. For me to even think about giving out a 10 it would probably have to be a player doing something historic or unheard of.
