Player Ratings: Sheffield United 2-1 Stoke (A)
The Blades crack it against the Potters
Riley Roberts
Michael Cooper - 5
Was well protected for most of the game, though did make one smart intervention when first to a ball over the top.
Femi Seriki - 6
A major threat going forwards as always, he burst into the box on multiple occasions, while also having a fair battle with Sorba Thomas at the other end.
Japhet Tanganga - 5
You have to give everyone credit for seeing out a win, but I didn’t think Tanganga had his best game individually, with his poor contact on his header being a contributing factor in the Stoke goal.
Tyler Bindon - 7
Vital in seeing the game out, it was Bindon who continuously managed to stop dangerous balls into the box from reaching their internet target. A relief after a nightmare showing at Wrexham.
Harrison Burrows - 7
Looked to play a bit of a quarter back role from deep with a whole load of long passes in search of runners, but was able to get forward himself a lot too, both creating and having a decent chance in the 1st half, while providing a superb assist for Cannon’s goal.
Jairo Riedewald - 8
After a weird goal dispute at Leicester, Riedewald can now officially call himself a Blades goalscorer, but his performance was more than that, with the Dutchman solid on the ball, and like a magnet when it comes to recovering 2nd balls in the middle of the park.
Djibril Soumare - 7
Gave probably his best performance in a Blades shirt, as he and Riedewald dominated the middle, especially in the 1st half. I still felt there was so much untidiness about his game, but he proved, at least in certain games, he can be an asset.
Andre Brooks - 5
Had few moments of great significance despite a couple of nice runs at his man and he and Seriki combining on a few occasions to threaten in the 1st half.
Callum O’Hare - 6
A typical hardworking display as he offered all his energy, and also saw himself involved in a couple of lovely moves in the 1st half. Unfortunately, one of those was a chance he blazed way over the top.
Tyrese Campbell - 6
Offered a threat in behind and also played his part on some nice moves, with it being his dummy that found O’Hare in the position for the aforementioned chance.
Tom Cannon - 6
Did a lot of running in behind, but was often unable to get on the end of much or make the ball stick at the top of the pitch, though his moment came in the 2nd half, when he delivered a superb finish low and hard past the keeper, to double the lead.
Average rating - 6.18
Ratings system:
0 – Reserved for anyone who has a wayward effort at goal smash me in the face, unlikely to ever happen.
1 – Worst of the worst. Saved for disastrous performances, with result-altering mistakes.
2 – A terrible performance. Performances where a player offers very little and has many unsuccessful actions, ultimately proving to be a major detriment to the team’s overall performance.
3 – A bad performance. Negative contribution. Like a 2, just a bit less rubbish.
4 – A below-average performance. Not necessarily having a negative impact on the game; it could just be a player who struggled to impact the game at all.
5 – The baseline rating. All players go into a game starting on a 5 — it’s bang average, given out for an unremarkable yet solid performance, for a postman delivering the post.
6 – A decent performance. A player who gets a 6 has positively contributed to the game, and at the very least has had some impressive moments while being generally solid outside of them.
7 – A good performance. Awarded for players who had a noticeable positive impact on the game.
8 – A very good performance. A player who made significant contributions to the outcome of the game with their performance and consistently displayed a high level throughout.
9 – An outstanding performance. To score as high as a 9, a player needs to be dominant throughout the match, performing at a level well above the standard and/or making multiple game-changing contributions.
10 – A perfect 10, unlikely to ever see the light of day as nobody has a flawless game. For me to even think about giving out a 10 it would probably have to be a player doing something historic or unheard of.
