Player Ratings: Sheffield United 1-0 Watford
Rating from Riley as Blades win their first home game of the season – "...one of those where I have to remind you that a 5 isn’t bad."
Riley Roberts
Michael Cooper - 5
Really didn’t have to do anything aside from a save he made look a tad harder than it needed to be early in the game. No issues, but little to report.
Japhet Tanganga - 6
Solid defensively and even motored forwards at times to support the attack, including in the build-up to the goal.
Mark McGuinness - 5
Just fine. One of those where I have to remind you that a 5 isn’t bad. He did the job you’d expect. Nothing wrong with that
Ben Mee - 6
A classy display where he showed his strength, and often in the right place at the right time. 10/10 overhead kick.
Sam McCallum - 7
The best player on the pitch in the 1st half, nipping in at all the right times, intercepting passes and putting in a good cross which led to a McGuinness chance. Was less involved in the 2nd but had a good game on the whole.
Djibril Soumare - 6
Sloppy in possession on occasion, but extremely lively in the press, making a couple of big challenges at full stretch. I enjoyed watching him today, even if there are definitely things he needs to brush up on.
Sydie Peck - 6
Improved from some of his other displays this season, I can’t really remember him doing anything wrong in the game. That’s usually a good sign
Chiedozie Ogbene - 6
Got up and down his side and looked to get crosses into the box, winning a few corners in the process and generally progressing us up the pitch.
Callum O’Hare - 8
Scorer of the goal but also our most lively player, often leading the much-improved press (I’ll concede that maybe Watford are just bad).
Louie Barry - 5
I feel like some of the slack he’s getting is a little unfair, honestly. He was fairly quiet, but his corners were top class, and he could’ve very well had an assist or two from the quality of those deliveries alone.
Tyrese Campbell - 5
Made some nice runs down the sides and even managed a rare (this season) sight at goal, with his effort being saved by Selvik for the game’s only goal. Still more to come from him, but he was a little more involved.
Average rating - 5.91
Ratings system:
0 – Reserved for anyone who has a wayward effort at goal smash me in the face, unlikely to ever happen.
1 – Worst of the worst. Saved for disastrous performances, with result-altering mistakes.
2 – A terrible performance. Performances where a player offers very little and has many unsuccessful actions, ultimately proving to be a major detriment to the team’s overall performance.
3 – A bad performance. Negative contribution. Like a 2, just a bit less rubbish.
4 – A below-average performance. Not necessarily having a negative impact on the game; it could just be a player who struggled to impact the game at all.
5 – The baseline rating. All players go into a game starting on a 5 — it’s bang average, given out for an unremarkable yet solid performance, for a postman delivering the post.
6 – A decent performance. A player who gets a 6 has positively contributed to the game, and at the very least has had some impressive moments while being generally solid outside of them.
7 – A good performance. Awarded for players who had a noticeable positive impact on the game.
8 – A very good performance. A player who made significant contributions to the outcome of the game with their performance and consistently displayed a high level throughout.
9 – An outstanding performance. To score as high as a 9, a player needs to be dominant throughout the match, performing at a level well above the standard and/or making multiple game-changing contributions.
10 – A perfect 10, unlikely to ever see the light of day as nobody has a flawless game. For me to even think about giving out a 10 it would probably have to be a player doing something historic or unheard of.
