Player Ratings: Sheffield United 0-1 Hull (A)

Michael Cooper - 5
Unspectacular. Hull only had 2 shots on target and one was the goal.
Japhet Tanganga - 5
Won a few early headers vs. Hull’s #9 but also had a sloppy moment in the 2nd half where he allowed a pass through his legs, gifting Hull a chance.
Mark McGuinness - 6
Recovered to spare Mee’s blushes after he gave it away cheaply to McBurnie.
Ben Mee - 4
Had a good time up against McBurnie but struggled to get things going on the ball, playing a few wayward/underhit passes, then of course the aforementioned chance he basically created for Hull.
Chiedozie Ogbene - 5
Was a bright spark going forward in the 1st half, but faded from the game a little.
Sam McCallum - 4
Weird one because I thought he was quite bright for the most part, though his crossing was predictably awful, and you do have to ask why all of Hull’s best play came down their right, including the goal.
Alex Matos - 6
I actually quite liked his performance today. Tidy and comfortable under pressure. Did a good job without the ball too.
Sydie Peck - 5
Started the game fairly well, picking up the loose balls when needed and looking tidy, if a little basic in possession. A fairly average day.
Callum O’Hare - 4
Ah, we have returned the “being pushed off the ball and creating little” variant of O’Hare.
Gustavo Hamer - 6
At the heart beat of every nice bit of play we had. He probably has too much workload if anything, but I still enjoy seeing some of the neat passes he plays.
Tyrese Campbell - 5
Made some excellent runs in the 1st half but was found just once out of what must’ve been about 7 times. I felt bad for him today because I really don’t think he could’ve done much about his fate, that being another pretty bland performance.
Average rating - 5.00
Ratings system:
0 – Reserved for anyone who has a wayward effort at goal smash me in the face, unlikely to ever happen.
1 – Worst of the worst. Saved for disastrous performances, with result-altering mistakes.
2 – A terrible performance. Performances where a player offers very little and has many unsuccessful actions, ultimately proving to be a major detriment to the team’s overall performance.
3 – A bad performance. Negative contribution. Like a 2, just a bit less rubbish.
4 – A below-average performance. Not necessarily having a negative impact on the game; it could just be a player who struggled to impact the game at all.
5 – The baseline rating. All players go into a game starting on a 5 — it’s bang average, given out for an unremarkable yet solid performance, for a postman delivering the post.
6 – A decent performance. A player who gets a 6 has positively contributed to the game, and at the very least has had some impressive moments while being generally solid outside of them.
7 – A good performance. Awarded for players who had a noticeable positive impact on the game.
8 – A very good performance. A player who made significant contributions to the outcome of the game with their performance and consistently displayed a high level throughout.
9 – An outstanding performance. To score as high as a 9, a player needs to be dominant throughout the match, performing at a level well above the standard and/or making multiple game-changing contributions.
10 – A perfect 10, unlikely to ever see the light of day as nobody has a flawless game. For me to even think about giving out a 10 it would probably have to be a player doing something historic or unheard of.
