After involvement from the Football Association, Prince William and Sir Alex Ferguson, the English Football League board has unanimously decided to name former Manchester United midfielder and current Middlesbrough head coach Michael Carrick as the Championship’s Manager of the Year.
Vincent Kompany, whose first year in charge of Burnley has culminated in promotion and the Championship title, will have his accolade officially rescinded later today, with the EFL’s special branch poised to storm the Belgian brick wall’s Lancashire home soon after the decision has been ratified. The original award given to Kompany will then be taken to a secure location to be professionally destroyed.
Thanks to Prince William’s impassioned plea to the FA and the Royal Family, Carrick will be awarded the title at an individual ceremony on Saturday 6th May. King Charles III, initially set to be crowned on the same day, has postponed his coronation accordingly.
“In a time of such uncertainty and division, when people are struggling to heat their homes and there are more foodbanks across the United Kingdom than McDonald’s outlets, I couldn’t, in all good conscience, go ahead with my coronation in the traditional way,” said the former husband of Diana, Princess of Wales. “I’ve therefore decided to let my dear friend Michael take my place on St Edward’s Coronation Chair, and have temporarily renamed said chair by Royal Decree to the Carrick Lifetime Achievement Throne.
