People who reminisce about things being better in t'olden days tend not to appreciate the speed at which we can get accurate information in the present day.
In footballing terms, not only can we discover the score at the touch of a button, we can watch almost every game live on our phones. And for those that want it, social media affords an instant and interactive discourse for discussion, gloating and moaning across the football world.
Everything is so readily available now. And maybe this takes away the joy of those bygone days. The searching for scorelines and digging for match reports was as much about the quest as it was about discovery.
On matchdays, there was the frantic twiddling of the dial on your transistor radio to find a commentary or to learn who had scored the winning goal for your team. Post-match, it would be days before a ten-second clip of said goal on a regional news programme was even a possibility.
